Brookfields Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Reserve (gold label) 2004

Obvious amber edge. Smoky cedar fragrance, forest floor, dark red berries and plums, and a little chocolate; very complex. Palate smooth and elegant with some smokiness, smooth tannins and plummy fruit. A lovely wine.

Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand

19/20 [tasted 02-01-2012]

Bought cellar door. Good value at $40.00. Stored in Vintage Keeper cabinet.

I have a bottle of 1994, Brookfields reserve vintage Cabernet Merlot. Can you estimate what it might be worth?

    • Hi Linde. I haven’t tasted the ’94 Gold Label. It wasn’t a great vintage in New Zealand, although in Hawke’s Bay it was dry and some very good wines were made. As for value, it’s hard to say. The latest Gold Label was available from the winery for $58, but a bottle of the 1994 was offered in an auction earlier this year with an estimate of just $20-30 (I don’t know what it sold for – you could contact Webbs and ask):

Peter Robertson, Brookfields owner and winemaker may also be able to tell you what the wine is like today. You can find the email from the ‘Location’ page of the winery:

I hope that’s useful and you enjoy the wine.

      Cheers, Gary
